I forbindelse med innlemmelsen av U2 i
Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame den 14. mars kom Bono med et tankevekkende
spark på leggen til dagens musikkbransje:
«He then urged music executives to rethink
how they do business, saying in the current sales-obsessed
climate U2 would have been dumped during a slump after their
second record, «October», which included overtly religious
songs. There would be no U2 the way things are now, that's a
fact, he said. Stars such as Springsteen and Neil Young, who
also failed to have early hits, also would have failed to make
the grade with today's music companies, he said.»

«There is very little chance for there to be another U2 the way
the business is constructed right now. You have to have the
single immediately. If you don't, you don't get a second chance.
I don't think that's what the great American artists or the
great European artists, for that matter, have come out of. Bruce
Springsteen didn't have a single for 10 years. Neil Young, I'm
not sure he ever had a single; and every song Neil Young does
sounds like a single to me.»
