Genesis is a Grammy Award winning English progressive rock band formed in
1967. The band's notable members included Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins,
both of whom achieved additional success as solo artists and in other
ventures. With approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide, Genesis is
one of the top 30 highest selling recording artists of all time.
One of the most successful rock acts of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s,
Genesis enjoyed a longevity exceeded only by the likes of the Rolling Stones
and the Kinks, in the process providing a launching pad for the superstardom
of members Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
Genesis is a band that has changed with time, beginning as an archetypal
progressive rock band of the 1970s, and morphing into a decidedly
unprogressive, but extremely successful soft rock giant in the 1980s and
'90s.
